(everyone’s favorite found footage chop shoppe) are back with their third inner-eye-opening feature — containing a feat never before attempted in either human or canine history. Hello friends! Welcome to the Che Cafe Benefit blog. This fundraising page will serve as a collection of music, art, photographs, videos, and words from a community that supports the perseverance of San Diego’s DIY venue, vegan cafe, and resource center for radical grassroots activists—a space that has remained vital for 31 years. Unfortunately, financial adversity is now threatening the Che’s existence, and we need everyone—those of us whose lives’ have been shaped by the Che as well as those who are just now discovering it—to come together and raise enough money to renew the Che’s insurance policy and ensure that this crucial community space will remain in operation next year.

The theft of the Che’s sound system last year was a damaging setback, and with the expensive insurance renewal date approaching, the need to reach our $12,000 fundraising goal in the ensuing months is extremely urgent. We encourage you to donate whatever you can; every penny will prove helpful. In addition to monetary donations, we are also accepting creative contributions for this blog. We hope that with this donation page, filled with art and thoughts from people who support this space and what it has stood for over the past three decades, we will not only help raise the money necessary to keep the Che Cafe running, but also the awareness of its legacy and how it will continue to benefit our community in the future. The gist is to help support local artists by providing them with a venue to exhibit their work. Every month we will feature artists of any medium. Studio artists are welcome to leave their work on our walls for the rest of the month in an attempt to sell their work to an international audience. We are a non-profit organization and want to make it very clear that all money from art sales go directly to the artist 100%. Our goal is to be able to open our doors to the general public of San Diego so that they can be aware of what a hostel is, where they exist in San Diego, and to possibly refer friends and relatives in the future.

Welcoming the Ethnic Studies upper division to the CHE CAFE:
ETHN 113 - Decolonizing Education facilitated by Professor Wayne Yang.This course considers decolonial theories of education in relation to classroom pedagogy, focusing on U.S. urban high schools.

The Ignite project is a presentation from students attending this course-where they will discuss how to do (blank)/something of their interest in five minutes.

How this show arrived to the CHE CAFE was when I realized many influentials taking this course are graduating soon. I have seen patterns where graduating students leave and current students who continue to attend UCSD wish for words of wisdom. I wish for wisdom and what better place to receive and be guided than to learn from the activist themselves. This will be a great space for UCSD Students to learn from their peers as they PASS DOWN THE WISDOM!

If you had been to our first Spirit Animal fest you saw Derrida. That's this band. They rule really hard. Hail the Sun is back on the road, and embarking on their 4th tour this summer, the "Hail the Sun...or Else! Tour" starting late May and going into mid June. Its been about 5 months since they played Che Cafe, and they have been looking forward to their return to San Diego. The States they are hitting are California, Nevada, and Oregon.

This past year and a half, Hail the Sun has toured 3 times, released a full length album entitled "POW! RIGHT IN THE KISSER!", received numerous reviews and interviews, got the cover of Synthesis Magazine, played with notable acts including Letlive., Jamie's Elsewhere, Surrogate, and they learned how to breathe underwater. This year of 2011, the band has already traveled over 2000 miles, and will be traveling 2500 more on this next tour. Join them on this wonderful adventure, and kick John whiles he's down. (get it?)
